Unwritten Rules
Where religion fails and
Where baseball succeeds
Is its acknowledgement of
Unwritten rules
No problem crossing the line
If only you step over it
No problem stealing unless
You’re winning by a double-digit number
Bunting in the ninth inning during
A perfect game is definitely a no-no
And throwing a 94-mile-per-hour projectile at someone
Is justified to mitigate cockiness
Written rules may guide
And regulate to a point
Yet will not account for
All that occurs on a baseball field
Let alone the chaos
And wondrous improbabilities
That prompt infinite rulebooks
Containing infinite pages with infinite rules
